Many brides choose to have a wedding garter because it is an old tradition. After the groom removes the garter from the bride's leg, the groom then tosses the garter to a group of single men at the wedding. As the the tradition goes, the man who catches the garter is supposed to be the next to marry.

In the past, many garters were typically white and blue and primarily made of elastic, lace and ribbon. Today, the garter has evolved and many are buying beautiful garter sets. The garter set includes a throw away garter and a keepsake garter. The garters are so beautiful that brides want to keep one! Today's garters come in a variety of colors, such as red, blue and even black.  Many still contain lace and have elastic to keep the garter on the leg, but there are now garters that are tied around the leg and the fabrics range from silk to vintage laces. They are adorned with rhinestones, pearls, flowers and other unique trims.

Take a look at the great garters I found on Etsy. They're so pretty, you'll want to wear or no wedding!
