What to Wear on Wedding Night in Islam

A wedding is considered as a legal contract between two people that gives the right and obligation for both of them. A wedding night or the first night after marriage can raise many questions. You should dress appropriately in your nikah. If you plan to have your nikah in the mosque then it is important that you dress modestly. Both man and woman should cover their body maintaining the rules of Islam. Witnesses and other guests may match the dress code with the couples. 

If you are willing to have the nikah with an occasion then you can plan what to wear on that occasion but Islam suggests wearing a dress modestly. 

Wedding Night in Islam 

Wedding night means the first night spent together as a couple after the marriage. Once you get married following the laws of Islam you can now spend time with your partner. Islam highly discourages relations without marriage. 

After you say qubool you are legal as a couple. Now you have full right to get close together. So questions will cross your mind about what to do on your wedding night. 

First, your main intention has to be the pleasure of Allah (SWT). You can get intimate with your life partner on the wedding night. There is no prohibition in this. But following some things you can both make the best day of your life and achieve proximity to Allah (SWT). 

What to Wear on Wedding Night in Islam 

A wedding night is probably one of the most memorable times in one's life. A person can get close with his or her partner on this night. You may ask what you should wear on that night or is it permissible to wear attractive outfits. 

You may wear whatever you want. If you want to wear something that keeps your modesty, you can also you can be open with your dress in front of your husband because you are legally his wife now

Islam says as long husband and wife shares relation between them in their room with the privacy they are allowed to wear anything in front of each other. So if you want to wear a charming or sexy outfit on your wedding night, you can as you are legally husband and wife. But there are no rules that you must follow, so it is completely upon you and your partner. 

Things to Know about Wedding Night 

A wedding is a sacred event as per Islamic rules. It creates a bond between two people. Also, it increases one's faith in Allah. Here are some things you should keep in mind about your wedding night. 

Get to Know Each Other First 

After the husband enters the room where his wife is already there, he should first say Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh to his wife, and his wife will reply to his salam. You should remember that the night is not only about intimacy and sex. Getting to know each other first can create a good bond between the couple. 

Accept Intercourse as Halal Part 

Getting intimidated and having intercourse is a halal part of a wedding. On your wedding night, you have permission to have sex with your life partner. 

Sex is not a Must 

You may say is it a must to have sex on the wedding night. No, it is not. It completely depends on the couple if they think of not having intercourse on the first night then they can. 

Some Sunnahs of Wedding Night 

On the wedding night when the bride enters the room, the husband should take off her shoes and wash her feet and sprinkle the water in the room. 

Then the husband is recommended to have wudu and pray two Rakat sunnah prayers. After his prayer, he should also encourage his wife to have wudu and perform two Rakat sunnah prayers. 

After completing their prayers they can go to bed. Now husband should put his hand on his wife's forehead and say the following dua: 

Allahumma bi amaanatika akhadhtuha wa bi kalimaatika is-tahlaltuha. Fa in qazayta li minha waladan, faj-’alhu mubaarakan taqiyya min Shiati Aal-i Muh’ammad (sal-lal-lahuu alaihi wa aalihi wa sallam) wa laa taaj-al lish Shaytaani fihi shirkan wa laa naseeba. 

Brushing teeth or having meswak is another sunnah that both husband and wife should do before intimacy.
